Assalamualaikum my fellow mates and readers. I welcome you all to my other blog. In this new blog, I will discuss Islamic views regarding sustainable development.
In Islam is has been ordered to take care of our nature and environment. Since we take lots of benefits from the environment, it is our responsibility to nurture our surroundings and keep them healthy and heal them as much as possible. There are many hadith and sunnah mentioned in Islam for sustainable development.
“Do not cause corruption on the earth” (2.12)
Allah does not like corrupters. Corruption is forbidden (haram) in Islamic teaching. Again, as Muslims, we need to follow these lessons from our messengers. Certainly, people who plant trees and help make our universe greener will be rewarded with honor in the afterlife.
“ There are none amongst the Muslims who plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird or a person or an animal eats from it, but is regarded as a charitable gift for him. (Bukhari)
Planting and maintaining trees are regarded as acts of charity (sadaqah). It is also an act of faith. In Islam, even if it is a person’s last deed, a Muslim should take care of their own nature and surroundings.
However, this is based on the underlying and strong faith in Islam, which means that to fulfill our duty, we must be qualified and good Muslims with a firm belief in the Islamic worldview. Unlike the conventional understanding of the world, we Muslims regard humans as earth's servers rather than the leader or owner of our common home. As a result, I humbly request that we reconsider our role in the world, and then renew our commitment to working for money and running for the sake of the world.
